There are three methods to browse our database:

- Detailed search
with the interface on the left side of the homepage. It’s a powerful tool – do you want to see all the cars with the power range from 100hp to 150hp offered in the North American market, let’s say, in 1985 ? Here you go. Or maybe all Fords of 1955 worldwide ?

- Quicksearch function - just type the part of the car’s full name (for example Chevrolet Camaro 3.8).

Results of Detailed search and Quicksearch will appear in the middle section of the homepage. Then just use [D] (details) or [A] (add to comparison) button to proceed.

You can also use Browse by make/model/type.
First step is choosing a manufacturer. Then the list of all models will appear with corresponding production years.
As a second step choose a year to display all variants manufactured in that time.
Third step is to click on Continue to detailed specs & photos >> button under the car you need, to finally display all details, performance graphs and full gallery.

To compare up to five cars in parallel columns:

1.
go to homepage

2.
find the car using Detailed search or Quicksearch interface

3.
use the [A] button to add your chosen car to the list, which will be displayed on the right side of the homepage

4.
repeat steps 1 and 2 to find and add another cars to the comparison,

5.
then just click Compare button to display the results.

Glossary:

Production period – time period when the model with the particular body style and engine/gearbox configuration was manufactured.

Modelyears  -  range of model years of cars with the particular model, body style, and engine/gearbox configuration. In most cases a model year includes cars manufactured since the middle of the previous calendar year. It mostly applies in the North American market.

Optional equipment – variantion in equipment which does not change the specifications, if applied.

EEC segmentation – the official European Commission classification.

Class – classification by automobile-catalog, based on the most popular methods(i.e. US EPA classification, ACRISS Car Classification Code, and others), consists of the following categories:

-          Microcar

-          City car

-          Subcompact/supermini

-          Compact/small family car

-          Mid-size/large family car

-          Full-size/executive car

-          Sports car

-          Grand tourer

-          Sports convertible

-          Sports roadster

-          Subcompact minivan/MPV

-          Compact minivan/MPV

-          Minivan/large MPV

-          Mini off-road/SUV

-          Compact off-road/SUV

-          Mid-size off-road/SUV

-          Full-size off-road/SUV

-          Entry-level luxury/compact executive car

-          Mid-size luxury/executive car

-          Full-size luxury/luxury car

-          Taxi

-          Van (commercial vehicle)

-          Pick-up (truck).

Dimensions & capacities – the official data published by the manufacturer, with the exception of a body drag coefficient. If there is no official declaration, the value is estimated by automobile-catalog, as an important factor for performance simulation calculations.

Weights - the official data published by the manufacturer. If there is no official declaration, the value is estimated by automobile-catalog, as an important factor for performance simulation calculations.

-          Curb weight (kerb weight) - includes the weight of a vehicle, standard equipment, oil, lubricants, coolant and in most cases a full tank of fuel. In some cases the manufacturer gives the value with a fuel tank filled to 90%. In case the official value was published according to European Directive 95/46/EC, the automobile-catalog subtracts 75kg of a drivers weight.

-          Dry weight - the weight of a vehicle without any fluids.

-          Official shipping weight - weight, up to the 70’s, did not include fluids. Later weight included oil, lubricants, coolant, and some fuel.

-          GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) - the maximum allowable weight of a fully loaded car.

-          Payload - the difference between GVWR and the curb weight.

Powertrain - the official data is published by the manufacturer, otherwise the corresponding remark is given. Power and torque data are published according to different standards, depending on the market or country of origin. There are two main categories – net (netto) and gross (brutto) values.

-          Net values are obtained, in most cases, for the engine with all necessary accessories and equipment, including the air-intake system, exhaust and emission control, cooling, electric generator and starter. Most popular standards:

§  DIN

§  ECE

§  ISO

§  SAE net

§  SAE certified

§  JIS net

§  CUNA (without additional cooling equipment)

§  GOST

-          Gross values are obtained only for engines with build-in equipment. In many cases, during the dynamometer test, engines were specially tuned for the maximum output. The difference between net and gross values for the same engine can reach up to 12-25% and more. Most popular standards:

§  SAE

§  JIS

§  Not specified standards, values given as “maximum”, “gross”, “brake” etc.

Drivetrain - gearbox details, final drive, standard tire dimensions, approach, departure and ramp angle values for off-road vehicles, officially published by the manufacturer, otherwise the corresponding remark is given.

Performance data  - factory claim - top speed and acceleration times officially announced by the manufacturer.

Fuel consumption  - factory claim -  values published by the manufacturer and/or the national official organizations:

-          ECE 90/120/city: the European DIN cycles used up to 1996, including a constant 90 km/h driving, a constant 120 km/h and a city driving cycle;

(the combined value, also called 1/3-mix or Drittelmix, is an average of these three numbers)

-          EU urban/extra-urban/combined: according to UN ECE Regulation R101 and European EU Directive 93/116/EC,

-          ADR81 urban/extra-urban/combined: according to Australian Design Rule 81/01 and 81/02, the procedure is common with EU 93/116/EC, so these figures can be confidently compared,

-          EPA city/highway:  according to US Environmental Protection Agency rules, applied to cars up to the model year 2007,

-          EPA 2008 city/highway:  according to US Environmental Protection Agency rules, applied to cars beginning with the model year 2008,

-          AS2877 city/highway: according to Australian Standard 2877-1986, this procedure is basically common with US EPA up to 2007, so these figures can be compared,

-          CND FTP city/highway: according to Canadian Federal Test Procedure

-          NBR7024 city/highway: according to Brazilian Standard NBR7024 “Veículos rodoviários automotores leves - Medição do consumo de combustível”

-           60-mode: according to Japanese 60-mode test procedure,

-          10-15 mode: according to Japanese 10-15 mode test procedure.
